The BBC has admitted that technical problems were behind it showing unusually low temperatures on its television and website services.
Temperatures as low as 7C were predicted for major UK cities for every day from next Monday to Thursday during the forecast on BBC News At Ten last night (Thursday June 29). The BBC weather app and website have also been forecasting temperatures in single figures across the country throughout the coming days.
It comes amid a spell of warm weather that has seen daytime temperatures consistently above 20C in recent weeks.
BBC Weather apologised for the mistake and said it was working to fix it with its data suppliers.
Screens during the forecast on BBC News At Ten displaying the predicted temperature in Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and London as 8C every day from Monday to Thursday.
In a statement, BBC Weather said: “Our apologies for the incorrect temperatures appearing on the website and app. We are working with our data suppliers to fix this fault.”
The issue drew a humorous reaction from social media users, with Eugene Gaughan writing: “The BBC weather app has gone back to February.”
Bill Badger said: “I hope the BBC weather app is just broken and this isn’t tomorrow’s weather!”
And Charlotte Foster added: “The BBC weather app is drunk.”
Other websites predict temperatures in the 20s for next week, although there is an increasing likelihood of rain on several days.
