Just Stop Oil activist Indigo Rumbelow and Rupert Read, former a member of Extinction Rebellion and now co-director of the Climate Majority Project, were invited onto the show for a three-person discussion.
They were initially asked about how the two climate activists differ in their approach toward the common goal of “change”.
Indigo, the first to speak, said: “I know that we need to move into civil resistance against our criminal government which is pushing for new oil and gas in the middle of this emergency.
“I know that the thousands of people that we are is not yet enough and we need to ask all the institutions, all the influential people, and everybody watching TV tonight to join us in civil resistance.
“That might mean joining the big one… the Extinction Rebellion protest tomorrow where tens of thousands of people are going to come out and demand an end to the fossil fuel era.
“It might mean staying on for the slow marches that will be starting in London from Monday 7 am Parliament square every weekday.”
Mr Clark wrote in The Spectator that rather than “ask the obvious” about what “criminal law” has been broken by the Government, Ms Derbyshire “failed to challenge this remark”.
He argued that the presenter missed the opportunity to ask several important questions, which would have scrutinised the group, in light of recent disruptive protests at major events.
