BBC facing pressure to drop Olly Alexander as Eurovision entry following Israel letter

BBC bosses were urged to drop the UK’s Eurovision 2024 entry after he signed a letter that called Israel an “apartheid regime” and criticised “Zionist propaganda”.

Olly Alexander backed an LGBT charity which accused Israel of genocide, a newspaper reported.

The Tory Party accused the BBC of “a massive oversight or sheer brass neck” by picking Alexander, 33, who topped the charts in 2015 with band Years and Years.

A Jewish charity called for him to be replaced and anti-Semitism campaigners demanded the broadcaster cut all ties. It is understood the BBC does not plan to take action as Alexander, right, signed the letter before he was unveiled as the UK act.

The statement he signed in October was co-ordinated by pressure group Voices4 London amid Israel’s military response to the October 7 terror attacks by Hamas.

Alexander, who starred in TV drama It’s A Sin about the 1980s Aids crisis, vowed to fly the flag for the UK “in the gayest way”.
