BBC, Boots and BA staff 'in their thousands' hit with major data hack linked to Russia


Thousands of UK-based employees have been warned their personal data has been accessed in a major Russia-linked cyber attack.

The BBC, Boots and British Airways have all confirmed their staff has been affected because of a third-party security breach.

Eight major companies using the payroll platform Zellis have been affected after a flaw was uncovered in one of the systems used by the company last week.

The incident relates to an issue in the software MOVEit Transfer, used by thousands of companies globally to transfer files, which could be exploited by cybercriminals.

The software maker, Progress Software, urged all companies using the programme were urged last week to take immediate action.

Zellis provides services to major businesses across the UK, including the NHS, BP, Credit Suisse and Wilko.
