Bargain hunter left mortified after discovering 'creepy' note in new charity shop jacket

A charity shopper was left “mortified” after finding a chilling note from her new jacket’s former owner.

Scott Murray went viral in 2021 after he shared a picture of his wife JoAnn proudly showing off a lovely flower-embroidered red jacket she had just bought.

But when the pair returned home, JoAnn found a rather “creepy” note pinned inside one of the pockets. The note read: “Bury me in this red suit.”

However, the former owner’s family appeared to have accidentally disregarded their loved one’s message and donated the two-piece suit to the charity shop.

Scott shared details of the incident on Facebook with photos of JoAnn wearing the embroidered jacket. He wrote: “Thrift shopping JoAnn found this lovely red jacket and it had a note pinned in the pocket.”

The original post recently resurfaced, spurring social media owners to share new comments on the story.

One user said: “Oh, I hope she got buried in something wonderful.”

Another wrote: “So damn sad. Her family most likely never saw this though.” And another said: “Well, that makes me really sad.”

Some users however admitted they would have been put off wearing the blazer once they discovered the note.

One said: “That’s creepy, couldn’t wear it.” And another jokingly noted: “This is sad af. Beware. The dead owner might haunt you for her jacket. I sure as hell would.”

Some users also suggested the note could have been an elaborate joke from the old owner of the jacket after arguing the message should have been pinned to the front of the suit rather than inside a pocket.

One social media user said: “That’s messed up, she should have pinned it on the front.”

Another said: “Can y’all go back to see if there are more notes in other jackets?

“Maybe this was a joke… Grandma left on all her favourite jackets and had this post to still mess with her kids.”

And one inspired Facebook user said she would “start putting this in the pockets of all the clothes I donate.”
