Baby killer Lucy Letby 'had key to her own cell' in 'cushy' jail branded 'like a hotel'

It has been revealed that baby killer Lucy Letby has been awarded her own private cell, sparking outrage among the families of her victims.

Letby received a life sentence without parole in August last year for murdering seven newborn babies, and trying to do the same to six others.

According to The Mirror, Letby has been handed the keys to her own jail cell as a reward for “good behaviour”, and it’s thought that she may use it to hide from other inmates if she feels threatened.

The parents of Lebty’s newborn victims have expressed their devastation at the news, with one saying: “We thought they were throwing away the key, and now we find out that she has her own key.”

Meanwhile, one prison insider compared her living situation to a “hotel”, and said: “It means if she wants to socialise she can, and if she wants privacy she can have that too. It’s really no different to living in a hotel – but you’re surrounded by criminals.”

Privacy is not the only perk that 34-year-old Letby enjoys whilst locked up.

After being moved from the Low Newton jail in Country Durham, she now resides in the privately-owned A HMP Bronzefield which reportedly has prisoners living a luxurious lifestyle.

At Bronzefield, situated in Surrey, she has access to a television, a phone, and an ensuite bathroom – all whilst receiving around-the-clock protection.

It seems that Letby is also making friends in her new home-for-life. In October, reports emerged that she had teamed up with fellow baby murderess Michelle Smith, jailed for poisoning her daughter in 2007, and Shauna Hoare, currently serving time for aiding her boyfriend’s murder of 16-year old schoolgirl Becky Watts in 2015.

According to one source in Bronzefield, the bloodthirsty trio were particularly fond of karaoke and spent “hours playing board games.”

Letby and Smith are also said to be fans of TV, watching crime shows together.

The Labour MP for the City of Chester, the region where Letby carried out her killing spree, slammed Bronzefield Prison for their decision to reward the murderer.

She said: “Those charged with her imprisonment need to explain why they feel she can be trusted with a key to her own cell. It doesn’t feel right or fair.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for HMP Bronzefield defended the move, and said: “Prisoners in some of our main units have a privacy key to the cell they reside in, so they are able to secure their personal belongings.”
