There will be a new Australian Open champion this year, with Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev both equally hopeful of claiming the top prize later today. The two players will do battle in the final at the Rod Laver Arena after claiming huge wins in their respective last-four matches against Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev.
Sinner appears to be the slight favourite, with the Italian having looked almost unstoppable in Melbourne over the last two weeks. He had not dropped a single set until his last-four meeting with Djokovic, in which he became the first man to beat the 36-year-old at the Australian Open since 2018.
Medvedev, meanwhile, has twice been on the brink of defeat but managed to claw himself back in front on both occasions. He trailed both Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round and Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals by two sets before rallying to marathon victories.
