Aussie living in UK alarmed when she saw cars 'parking backwards' but now does it herself

An Australian woman living in the UK has revealed that she was shocked when she first saw cars parking “backwards”.

TikToker Amie Elizabeth made the revelations in a post which has been viewed by more than 200,000 people detailing some of the things that surprised her when she first moved to the UK.

Ms Elizabeth said some of the things that surprised her were the amount of queuing, the country’s drinking culture and parking backwards.

She said that when she first saw cars parked in either direction she felt “like why is that car parked backwards”.

But now she says she has begun doing it herself adding “now if I see a parking spot in London I’m like that spot is mine regardless of how I have to get into it”.

Another thing she was surprised at was British customer service, saying it was much less friendly than that in Australia.

She said: “I thought everyone was so rude, no one says hi to you when you go into a shop.

“People will literally just ignore you, but once when I was like I want a phone plan, they were like no worries and the girl just started tapping away at her computer for like 20 minutes without speaking to me and I was like is this normal?

“This is the most awkward thing I’ve ever done, I’m used to it, I actually don’t want to talk to you in customer service.”

She also said she now factors Britains long queues into her daily life saying she was “comfortable with the fact I’ll probably spend 12 of my 24 hours in a day queuing”.

Ms Elizabeth also added she was now the first person to ask her workmates for a pub trip at the end of the working day.
