At least two dead after mass shooting rocks US with dozens wounded in Baltimore


A number of people were killed and dozens more were left wounded following a shooting in Baltimore, Maryland, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

During a press conference held a few hours after the incident, officials confirmed at least two people were killed during the shooting and three were left in critical condition. 

The incident happened during an overnight gathering taking place in Brooklyn Homes section of South Baltimore. 

The Baltimore Police Department (BDP) said emergency services rushed to the scene in the 800 block of Gretna Avenue. 

A brief statement shared by the force on Twitter read: “BPD is on scene of a mass shooting incident in the 800 blk of Gretna Court in our Southern District. 

“Acting Commissioner Worley and PIO [Public Information Officer] are on scene. 

“Media Staging Area will be located at the intersection of 6th Street and Audrey Avenue.” 

The force also shared a picture showing a few officers standing near a residential block in a cordoned-off area. 

FOX45 News Rebecca Pryor, said she was told by an officer in the media staging area that 10 people were taken to hospitals by Baltimore Police, while another 19 had taken themselves to various hospitals.  

A witness claimed to Fox 45 Baltimore to have heard between 20 to 30 shots being fired, with the noise starting at approximately 12.30am. 

One said: “They just kept going off.” 

Videos and pictures from the scenes show the area surrounding the residential block littered with broken glass, empty alcohol cans as well as personal belongings, including someone’s shoe.

A witness who spoke to the local broadcaster claimed there were hundreds of people in the area to attend the yearly event, called “Brooklyn Day”.
