At least nine Jewish schools have closed today amid concerns for students safety

Nine Jewish schools in London have closed their gates over safety concerns triggered by fallout from the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The closed schools serve Orthodox members of the Jewish community and so have pupils who are most visibly Jewish, according to Jewish News UK.

Unverified reports of nine school closures comes as the Metropolitan Police said London has seen a “massive increase” in antisemitic incidents since the Israel-Hamas conflict began.

Other media outlets have reported between two to four school closures in the capital, including Torah Vodaas Primary in Edgware and Ateres Beis Yaakov Primary in Colindale.

Both schools informed parents on Thursday (October 12) they would not reopen until Monday.

In a letter to parents quoted by London’s Evening Standard newspaper, Rabbi Feldman of Torah Vodaas, said while there was no specific threat to the school it was not a decision taken lightly.

Schools have already been warning Jewish students to disguise their uniforms over fears of retaliatory attacks provoked by the conflict in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
