Asylum seekers 'should be on a plane' claims volunteer in row over refugee hotels


She said: “The government are handing these hotels over to private companies who want to pay as little as possible. You’ve got traumatised people who are stuck in their rooms all day with nothing to do.”

Another member of the public called Andy told the BBC the idea of sending asylum seekers to Rwanda “just doesn’t sit comfortably” with him.

In Westminster today, opposition politicians criticised the policy and the Home Secretary’s remarks. The SNP’s home affairs spokesperson Alison Thewliss told the Commons the bill was about “banning asylum seekers”.

Ms Braverman said the SNP were siding with smuggling gangs and told Labour to “get off Twitter” and visit Rwanda.

Criticising Labour for announcing its immigration plans via social media, the Home Secretary said: “What I suggest they do is get off Twitter, get to Rwanda and I will show them how to stop the boats.”

At the weekend, Ms Braverman said it was a “blessing” the migrants could seek refuge in Rwanda.
