Asda worker approaches woman in tears and says 'follow me'

An Asda worker has been praised after telling a woman to “follow me” after seeing her upset in the store.

Veteran staff member Sue, who has worked for the supermarket giant for 25 years, was approached by a woman to see if anything was handed in to staff. The woman couldn’t find a £20 note she had brought to the store to pay for her electricity bill.

When Sue told the customer, who had young children, told her nothing had been handed in to staff at the Ellesmere Port store in Liverpool, the woman became “upset”. It was then that kind-hearted Sue stepped in.

Adele, the store’s community champion, said: “The lady has young children, so when Sue asked her what she had needed the money for, the lady replied ‘for electric’.

“Sue, out of the kindness of her own heart, then replied ‘follow me’ and took her to the cashpoint in the store, took £10 from her own bank account, and gave it to the customer.”

The customer was said to have been taken aback by Sue’s gesture and returned to the store the following day, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Adele added: “The lady was taken aback by her kindness. She was so grateful that she returned to store the next day to give Sue back her £10.”

Sue’s manager, Caroline, added: “I am so proud of Sue and her amazing random act of kindness, you are such a credit to our store.”

Caroline has now nominated Sue for an Asda service superstar award.‍

After reading about Sue’s kindess, readers were quick to praise the employee.

“How kind is that,” wrote one person, posting on the Liverpool Echo’s Facebook. “There is not enough of this in the world there should be more people like Sue that goes a long way. Not everyone has £10 but just a kind word and support that’s brilliant xxx well in kid xxx”

“Sue you’re an amazing person. We need more people like you in this world,” added a second user.

“Love this!” commented another. “What a lovely gesture.”
