Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta explains new Declan Rice injury problem after Tottenham draw

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has explained that Declan Rice was forced off during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham in the north London derby due to a back problem. Rice lasted just 45 minutes of thr showdown before being replaced by Jorginho at the break.

“He had some discomfort in his back,” Arteta said after the match. “He was telling us during the first half he was not comfortable.” The Spaniard went on to explain that he was “hopeful” the injury wouldn’t be a long-term issue but hinted it could be significant as “it’s strange that a player like him” would come off at an early stage of the game.
