Armed Forces honoured in special tribute during Royal Family's Christmas carol service

Personnel from the Armed Forces have been honoured in a special tribute during the Royal Family’s Christmas carol service. Members of the Firm, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, attended the event at Westminster Abbey on December 15. The Christmas carol service was later aired on ITV1 last night.

In a post on Twitter, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) voiced pride about having personnel attending the event.

They also pointed out how photographs of some servicemen were used to decorate a traditional fir tree.

The MoD said: “Armed Forces personnel were proud to join Christmas celebrations at a carol service with The Royal Family.

“Photographs of some of the service personnel deployed overseas away from their families this Christmas were used to decorate a Christmas tree in Westminster Abbey.”

In snaps uploaded alongside the post, military personnel could be seen lighting candles and singing in the carol service.

Some members of the Armed Forces have been asked to cover for strike action over the festive period.

Soldiers from the British Army have even been standing in at UK airports for striking Border Force officers.

Leading UK airports praised the servicemen for their work.

A Heathrow spokeswoman said: “The morning arrivals peak has started well.

“Immigration halls are free-flowing at Heathrow with Border Force and the military contingency providing a good service.”

The 40-year-old said: “This Christmas will be our first without Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth.

“Her Majesty held Christmas close to her heart, as a time that brought people together and reminded us of the importance of faith, friendship and family, and to show empathy and compassion.

“This year, we’ve invited hundreds of inspiring individuals to the service.

“Those who showcase the power of connectedness and community values, allowing us to continue Her Majesty’s tradition of recognising and thanking those who have gone above and beyond to support others.

“Her Majesty leaves with us an incredible legacy and one that has deeply inspired many of us.”
