Animal activist spared jail after running onto Epsom Derby track in bid to disrupt race


An Animal Rising activist that stormed the Epsom Derby racetrack in a desperate attempt to stop the famous event has been spared jail.

The 32-year-old dashed onto the Surrey track just minutes before the horses were due to gallop past.

He pleaded guilty to causing public nuisance at Surrey Crown Court today.

Newman, from Homerton, east London, was chased by officers as the crowd booed him, before he was tackled and pulled away about 60 seconds before the horses ran past.
