A couple is suing Disney after a “painful wedgie” on a popular water slide resulted in grisly vaginal lacerations and emotional distress.
The couple filed the lawsuit in Orange County, Florida. They say the alleged incident happened in the Walt Disney World Resort around October 2019.
They are alleging negligence on the part of the Walt Disney World Resort.
The suit claims the incident happened on the Typhoon Lagoon waterpark’s Humunga Kowabunga slide.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday by Emma and Edward McGuinness, and seeks £40,000 ($50,000) in damages.
The couple’s lawsuit claims that Emma was at the park in a one-piece bathing suit while celebrating her 30th birthday.
On that October day, Emma rode the Humunga Kowabunga slide. That particular slide consists of three body tubes totaling 214 feet in length, and then ends with a plummet into a pool of water. The pool is supposed to slow riders down from a speed of nearly 40 miles per hour.
According to the suit: “The impact of The Slide and [Emma’s] impact into the standing water at the bottom of The Slide caused Ms. McGuinness’ clothing to be painfully forced between her legs and for water to be violently forced inside her.”
The suit argues that, while guests are told to cross their legs and ankles while riding the slide, Disney did not do its job in informing the couple of that precaution.
After riding the water ride, Emma “experienced immediate and severe pain internally and, as she stood up, blood began rushing from between her legs.” Emma then had to be rushed to the hospital where she received treatment, and later surgery to repair gynecologic injuries.
The couple’s lawsuit described Emma’s experience as a “painfull wedgie.”
The suit also alleges that Emma “suffered severe and permanent bodily injury including severe vaginal lacerations, a full thickness laceration causing [Emma’s] bowel to protrude through her abdominal wall, and damage to her internal organs.”
The Typhoon Lagoon water park opened in 1989. It is one of two water parks on the Disney World property in Florida, as well as is one of the most-visited water-based attractions in the world.
