Angela Rayner must answer these 11 questions over allegations of tax evasion, claim Tories

Angela Rayner has been under pressure to explain why she did not pay Capital Gains Tax on a property which she sold for a £48,500 profit.

The Labour Deputy Leader has been branded a hypocrite for potential tax evasion on a home she bought in Greater Manchester under right to buy in 2007 and then sold in 2015.

It has been claimed that she was not living at the address which means she would have been due to pay tax on the sale. The allegations have emerged in Lord Ashcroft’s book on the Labour Deputy Leader entitled Red Queen? The unauthorised biography of Angela Rayner.

Now the Tories have issued 11 questions they say Ms Rayner must answer.

Tory MP Jonathan Gullis said: “Angela Rayner has questions to answer. If she has nothing to hide, she should have nothing to fear.”

A Labour spokesman said: “Angela, who had an older child from a previous relationship, and her husband maintained their existing residences before moving into their shared marital home.”

Angela Rayner said: “I owned my own home, lived there, paid the bills there and was registered to vote there, prior to selling the house in 2015.”
