Ange Postecoglou reacts to 'being on Liverpool shortlist' and confirms triple injury blow

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou laughed off speculation that he has been added to Liverpool’s managerial shortlist. It was claimed on Friday that the Australian was being considered by Anfield chiefs who are drawing up plans to replace Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

Xabi Alonso is the strong favourite to succeed Klopp but the Bayer Leverkusen head coach has interest from elsewhere. Should Liverpool fail to lure the Spaniard back to Merseyside, where he enjoyed a six-year career with the Reds, it has been reported that Postecoglou could be the perfect Plan B.

It was put to the Spurs manager that he was potentially on a shortlist for the Liverpool job. However, Postecoglou simply laughed at the suggestion.

Postecoglou has attracted admirers across Europe with his work at Spurs and previously Celtic. He guided the Scottish side to consecutive Premiership titles in his two years at Parkhead before he was appointed by the Premier League club last summer.

High-flying Spurs were top of the table after going unbeaten in their first 10 matches, including victories over Liverpool and Manchester United. A dip in form just prior to Christmas, caused by a disastrous injury crisis, has been overcome in impressive style with Spurs back in the top four.
