Andrey Rublev, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are also among the higher-ranked seeds in Alcaraz’s half of the draw. The bottom half includes Medvedev, Sinner, Ruud and Zverev – all of whom have reached at least the quarter-finals in Beijing – as well as world No 4 Holger Rune.
Medvedev is the most recent champion in Shanghai, defeating Zverev in the final the last time the tournament was played in 2019. The world No 3 and Murray are the only two former champions in the draw since the event became a Masters 1000 in 2009.
