Andrew Neil brutally slaps down Humza Yousaf over Middle East briefing demand

Andrew Neil brutally put down Humza Yousaf after he complained he had not been briefed by the UK Government on the Middle East latest.

The Scottish First Minister said it was “pretty disappointing” he has not had a briefing after British involvement in defending Israel from an Iranian attack on Saturday.

But Mr Neil insisted the SNP leader should be briefed on Glasgow rather than Gaza.

The former BBC presenter said: “He doesn’t need to be briefed on Gaza, for which he has no responsibility.

“He needs to be briefed on Glasgow, which his party, the SNP, is running into the ground — and that is his responsibility.”

Mr Yousaf said he has been asking the UK Government for a briefing since Saturday evening.

He told LBC: “Although I understand the situation was fast-moving and fast-paced even after the events of Saturday night and Sunday morning I’ve still not had a briefing to this day. That to me is pretty disappointing.

“What I would say is what we need in the Middle East, what we need from the international community is cool heads.

“Nobody wants to see another escalation, quite the opposite we want to see de-escalation.

“There will not be a peaceful resolution to the Middle East, to the situation in Israel and Gaza, without an immediate ceasefire.

“There will not be a military solution, there has to be a diplomatic and political solution.”

It comes after Britain joined the US and other allies in shooting down Iranian attack drones against Israel on Saturday night.

The Prime Minister on Sunday confirmed that RAF jets shot down “a small number” of drones fired by Iran in what was its first direct military assault on Israeli soil.

The unprecedented attack by Tehran, which it said was in retaliation against a strike on an Iranian diplomatic compound in Syria earlier this month, has raised fears over the Israel-Hamas war spiralling into a wider regional conflagration.
