American torn to shreds as she can't understand how 'Sunday roast' got its name

An American TikToker has been torn apart by Britons after she said she “doesn’t know” why a Sunday roast has its name.

For Britons, the Sunday roast is a staple of our weekends, but it appears that some across the Atlantic are baffled by the concept.

TikTok user janelthebear was trying different British dishes when she decided to review a Sunday roast.

She said: “I don’t really know why they call it a Sunday roast. This is a solid 8.5.10.”

This sparked fury in the comments, with one viewer simply explaining: “Because it is eaten on a Sunday.”

Another added: “Well maybe it’s because it is a roast dinner that you have on a Sunday.”

One person mocked Janel, sarcastically asking: “Why do they call it taco Tuesday?”

Another commenter was in a sarcastic mood, saying: “Maybe, JUST MAYBE, it’s called a SUNDAY roast because it’s eaten on a SUNDAY.”

The next dish Janel tried was a leek, chicken, and potato pie.

While tucking into the pie, Janel said: “I don’t know what a leek is.” This caused yet more frustration among Britons in the comments.

One said: “As a British person I almost cried when you said you didn’t know what a leek is.”

Finally, Janel tried a jacket potato, and it’s safe to say she was impressed. She said: “This is so comforting, this is what I’d eat if I was comfy.”

But jacket potato enthusiasts were quick to point out a controversial addition to the dish – sweetcorn.

One commenter said: “First of all don’t slam British food if you eat your jacket potato with SWEETCORN!”

Another added: “Are we going to ignore the fact she put sweetcorn on jacket potatoes and not Heinz beans and cheese.”
