American living in UK reveals hilarious British text symbol she has never understood

An American living in the UK has revealed she was “confused” by the use of a letter at the end of texts – something commonly done by Brits.

The TikToker, who now lives in Yorkshire, was asked by one of her followers if she was confused by the kiss symbol at the end of messages, which is not the done thing in the US.

The woman, named Lisa who calls herself Yorkshirepeach on the social media app, replied saying she was “absolutely confused” by the x at the end of texts.

Lisa said she thought it meant she had to sign at the bottom of the message at first, before eventually discovering its true significance.

She said: “So when I first moved here everybody was like ‘x’ and I was like am I supposed to sign here and send it back?

“To an American an ‘x’ means sign here at the bottom of the document. Anyway, so once I had a really close friend who was like are you in a bit of a mood? Or something to that effect.

“And she was like why don’t you use the kisses and then I was like alright so it’s rude not to use it.”

Then she explained that she had a complete change of heart and began to use the symbol as often as she could. But

She added: “Then what happened was an over-correction, so I used it in correspondence with everyone, including prescription receipts from the GP who is male.

“I also used it for builders’ quotes and stuff for the house, emails with plumbers and in my previous marketing role with male clients in the construction industry.

“So it wasn’t until a co-worker was copied in and asked me why I was always sending kisses to Stanley that I realised, so there you go.”
