American leaves Brits in stitches as he tries beans on toast for the first time

An American obsessed with UK food has left Brits in stitches after trying beans on toast for the first time with his mum.

In the video posted by TikTok star @theelitone, the American mum looks lost for words when she first lays her eyes on the British delicacy.

When her son asks her to react to how it looks, she says: “This is just not my cup of tea.” She added that the dish was “truly unfamiliar” to her, and unlike anything she’d eaten before.

“That’s butter on there!” she says in horror before taking her first bite of beans on toast.

She adds: “No, I’m not getting ready to do that. I’m not going to eat butter.”

The American mum then excruciatingly tries to cut a slice of toast and scoop beans using just a fork.

When she finally tries her first mouthful of beans on toast, she looks like she’s about to throw up.

“Chew it!” her son says as she struggles to even handle one mouthful of the British staple.

But her son @theelitone was keener on the dish. He takes a big mouthful and says it tastes amazing with a dollop of brown sauce.

Holding up a plate of beans, toast and brown sauce, his baffled mum asks: “Do you guys eat this in UK? I don’t want to offend you, I’m sorry. But this does not look smashing to me.”

Brits were quick to defend their national dish and mocked the American duo for their choice of utensils.

TikTok user Dave D said: “Top tip, if you use a knife your experience will be so much better.” Alanna Marsh added: “Who uses a teaspoon to eat beans on toast?”

Another viewer said: “Unfortunately she already decided she didn’t like it before she tried it, shame cause it’s delicious.”

Others were ready to give Americans their best beans on toast hacks. “I never butter my toast when I’m having beans,” TikToker JM said. “Try melting the cheese in the bean sauce so you get cheesy tomato sauce.”

Another viewer said: “Next time out the cheese in the beans when they’re cooking!”
