Ali Carter says Ronnie O'Sullivan is 'not well mentally' as fiery feud takes dark turn

Ali Carter has fired back at Ronnie O’Sullivan by claiming the Rocket is ‘not well mentally’ in a response to his scathing rant after the Masters final. The pair have come to blows in the aftermath of O’Sullivan’s victory over Carter at Alexandra Palace, which sealed the former’s eighth Masters title.

Their rivalry came to a head after the match when O’Sullivan launched a blistering rant, saying that Carter was a ‘f****** nightmare’ to play against and urged the 44-year-old to ‘sort his f****** life out’. Carter has since hit back at the Rocket at the World Grand Prix in Leicester, breaking his silence ahead of his match against Wu Yize on Tuesday.

Addressing O’Sullivan’s comments, Carter said: “Ronnie’s entitled to his opinion of me. I just said what it is and how it was and I talk facts. Angry about what? No. Yeah, it makes no difference to me what he says.

“He says different things on different days, I don’t think he even knows what’s going to come out of his mouth at certain times. I actually feel a bit sorry for him. I don’t think he’s that well, mentally. We move forward and we go again this week.”

O’Sullivan has previously spoken about his struggles with mental health, with his recent documentary on Amazon Prime touching on his addiction to drink and drugs as well as his battles with depression. In November, he withdrew from the Champion of Champions event after revealing that he was ‘mentally feeling a bit drained and stressed’.
