A1(M) traffic LIVE: Chaos as major UK motorway closed with air ambulance at the scene


A “serious incident” on a major stretch of UK motorway has sparked travel chaos this afternoon. Emergency services including an air ambulance has rushed to the scene on the A1(M) in Hertfordshire at around midday on Wednesday, April 3.

An update on the National Highways website reads: “The A1(M) southbound in Hertfordshire is closed between J9 Letchworth Gate Interchange (Letchworth, Hitchin A505) and J8 Corey Mill Interchange (Stevenage A602).

“This is due to a serious incident. The scene is being managed by Hertfordshire Police with units from Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue, East of England Ambulance Service and a helicopter from Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance.”

It is unknown whether there have been any casualties as a result of this incident.
