Sue Williams, 62, took her keys and scratched eight cars , including a Mercedes and a Range Rover Vogue belonging to strangers, when she went out for walks around Sevenoaks in Kent.
It is believed she cause at least £8,000 worth of damage and the court was told the only explanation she could give was that she was feeling menopausal.
She took her keys and as she passed cars which had at least two wheels on the pavement, in most instances, scratched the vehicles right the way along their side panels.
Her damage spree started on March 18 last year while she was out walking along Church Road in the town and spotted a white Seat Terraco on the pavement and keyed it.
She caused £2,776.68 of damage to the vehicle, but not content with that, she then walked past a black Ford Fiesta which also had its wheels on the pavement and scratched that too.
Then she targeted a third vehicle – a silver Peugeot Partner van – which she also spotted parked on the pavement. But Williams’ wanton destruction didn’t stop there as just eight days later she started targeting other cars parked on pavements.
On March 26, she keyed a grey Mercedes causing £1,453.66 of damage, then a blue Mini, causing £840 of damage and then she moved onto a Vauxhall Mokka causing £933 of damage.
Later the same day, she spotted two more vehicles with their wheels on pavements and decided she would key those too.
One was a white Fiat 500, which she caused £492.60 of damage to, and the other was a black Range Rover Vogue.She was later charged with eight counts of criminal damage and admitted all the offences when she appeared in court on August 14 and sentencing was adjourned.
She returned to Medway Magistrates’ Court on October 25 to hear her fate. Dylan Bradshaw, prosecuting, said all the vehicles which had been damaged were in close proximity to each other.
He added: “The police were called on March 18 at about 4.20pm to a report a large scratch had been made along the entire length of the Seat and the offender was ID’d as the defendant. “Then there was another report and the Focus had also been keyed and there was a large scratch along the driver’s side.”
Mr Bradshaw said on March 26 several more cars were keyed. The first car damaged was reported at about 1pm that day.
He said a Mokka which was damaged had scratches along the entire length of the passenger side and there had been at least two scratches left on the Range Rover Vogue.
Magistrates heard in total at least £8,000 worth of damage had been caused to the eight cars, but some of the owners had gone through their insurance to have the repairs completed so it was not known exactly how much the total repair bill had come to.
Stewart Lewis, defending, said his client had no previous convictions and that the only reason he could offer as the reason Williams keyed all the vehicles was because she may have been menopausal.
He added: “It’s not been identified as such, but something happened in her mind to damage the vehicles. A substantial amount of damage was done.
“They were all parked on the pavement and it restricts people walking on the pavement. They have to go in the road to go around the vehicle.”
Mr Lewis also told the court Williams’ husband was going to cash in his pension to pay everyone back for the damage.
Sentencing Williams, of The Briars, West Kingsdown, magistrates told her she would be placed under curfew for three months, having to stay indoors at her home between 8pm and 6am.
They also issued her with a compensation order because the owners had been impacted by her actions and had either had to pay out for the repairs themselves or would have to pay more on their insurance policies when they renewed them, as they had made claims.
They ordered she pay back £4,500 to the owners, with three people being awarded £500 each and the other five awarded £600.
Magistrates accepted Williams pay the whole amount back within six months.
