306ft barge to be used to house up to 500 asylum seekers is towed into Cornish port

A massive floating hulk that will house 500 migrants has arrived in the UK this morning for a refit ahead of going into service next month as part of a government plan to tackle the Channel small boats crisis.

The enormous 306-foot-long Bibby Stockholm could be seen this morning being towed into port in Falmouth, Cornwall, after arriving from Genoa, Italy.

The 50-year-old vessel has previously been used to house the homeless and asylum seekers in Europe, as well as having been used as accommodation for off-shore workers.
