Zlatan Ibrahimovic lifts lid on error that cost Man Utd £5m and left Ed Woodward fuming

“[Woodward said:] ‘You’ve ruined a five million pound promotional plan.’ They had planned a surprise campaign and a presentation with special effects a la Hollywood. And I ruined everything with an update on social media.”

Ibrahimovic’s first season at United was memorable, scoring 28 goals and winning the EFL Cup and Europa League – the last trophy the club lifted.

He stayed for an extra six months beyond his initial contract and netted 29 goals in 53 appearances before a knee injury cut his stint short.

The prolific striker left United midway through the 2017/18 campaign, moving to the States to play for LA Galaxy.
