After Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey aired overnight in the US, Megyn Kelly told Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid she didn’t feel sorry for the royal couple. The American journalist slammed Harry and Meghan for explaining they struggled to pay for security after they were cut off financially ahead of the interview airing exclusively on ITV on Monday evening.

“Harry is saying, ‘All I had was my mother’s inheritance,’ so I looked that up, it;s about $15-16million,” Megyn stated.

“So you’re telling the American public, the British public right now, we’re supposed to feel sorry for you because you had to find a way to pay for your own security when you haven’t had to pay for a dime of your own life so far?

“The British taxpayers have paid for everything.”

Piers jumped in to add: “Even the two and a half million pound refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage was paid for by us.

“But if you want your liberty then you’re going to have to pay for it. That’s the way it works.”

“It’s so unsympathetic to a couple who are clearly at risk, all they were asking for was to be protected,” Susanna snapped back.

Piers scoffed: “Oh please! You’re buying into their ludicrous self-serving narrative Susanna.

“I’m sorry they were told when they finally made their big decision, ‘We’re leaving Britain, we’re leaving the Royal Family, we’re leaving our duty,’ they said, ‘Okay in that case, I’m afraid the paid security that comes with doing the job, the royal duty, that I’m afraid goes with the job.’

“Nobody believes that. And, ‘I thought meeting the Queen would be like meeting a celebrity in Los Angeles, like meeting a Kris Jenner.’

“Nobody believes that. She goes on to say ‘I don’t believe in any of the grandeur.’

“There’s an article already up on the New York Post in the States here saying, ‘This is the person who had Clooney and Oprah at her wedding even though she didn’t even know them.’

“Spare us you aren’t into any of the grandeur and while she’s spinning this tale about how tough she had it in the castle.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry is on ITV at 9pm on Monday March 8. You can watch the full interview afterwards on the ITV hub
