The Masked Singer: Johnny Rotten removes Jester mask as he departs during double-elimination episode


Johnny Rotten revealed that he was the Jester as the Sex Pistols lead singer departed The Masked Singer on Wednesday during a double-elimination episode on Fox.

The 65-year-old English-born punk rocker was eliminated during the Group A semifinals along with British singer Natasha Bedingfield, 39, who performed as Pepper.

Bull and Skunk also sang during the season six episode and advanced to the group finals.

Jester performed Man Of Constant Sorrow by Soggy Bottom Boys from the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou? after joining the competition last month as a wildcard entry.

‘The person who I think is gonna get the biggest kick outta this is my wife. We’ve been together 45 years. But unfortunately, her health isn’t what it used to be,’ Jester said during his clues package.

‘But no illness can stand in the way of how much I love her. And when she sees this, it’s gonna be a complete blast to her, and she’ll know it’s me without a doubt,’ he added.

Jester for the new Bling Shot Clue launched a projectile for panelist Robin Thicke, 44, with the word ‘Cake’ on it.

‘Oh, he lives next to you,’ said guest panelist Will.i.am, 46, who later guessed that Jester was Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott, 62.

‘That’s scary,’ quipped Robin.

Jester stumped the entire panel who made guesses ranging from Dee Snyder to Roger Daltry to Gene Simmons.

The studio audience chanted ‘Take it off’ as Jester removed his mask.

‘Literally the inventor of punk rock,’ Robin said.

‘Johnny freakin Rotten?!,’ said Will.i.am who stood on the desk in tribute before praising Johnny for being a punk rock pioneer.

‘You know, it’s very rare, like, you meet people that have inspired generations, that gave liberty to people to express themselves and rebel. You mean so much to the world of music, and I just want to thank you for all that you’ve done for music,’ Will.i.am told Johnny.

‘We’ve only got one life, and we must explore all the possibilities, and be limited by no one for no reason,’ said Johnny, real name John Lydon.

‘True punk rock, baby,’ said Nick.

Jenny McCarthy, 49, asked Johnny about the ‘Cake’ clue that was tossed out earlier.

‘Ah, in Britain, we were banned everywhere, couldn’t play. And so we managed to get this gig playing for orphans, and they had cake and they smothered us in it. And so children got us, but adults didn’t,’ Johnny explained.

Nick then asked Johnny to expound on doing the show for his wife.

‘We’ve been married 45 years,’ Johnny said.

‘And, no sadness, you know, but at a certain point now in her life where she’s suffering from Alzheimer’s. And it’s my job as her main protector and love of my life to look after her, and she will love this,’ Johnny said.

Johnny and Nora Forster, 79, have been married since 1979 and he revealed in 2018 that she was in the mid-stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

The punk rock legend before departing sang a bit of Man Of Constant Sorrow with his mask off.

Grammy-nominee Natasha left the show after Johnny following her performance as Pepper of Sign Of The Times by Harry Styles.

She unleashed her powerful vocals during the song and Ken Jeong, 52, confidently hit the Take It Off Buzzer believing Pepper was Sara Bareilles, 41.

He was wrong, but Nicole Scherzinger, 43, later was proved right as she stuck with her First Impression guess that Pepper was Natasha.

Nicole became tied with Ken on the count of correct first impression guesses during the season.

Jenny asked about the person who she was close to in the clues package.

‘Oh, my son, he had brain surgery just before the pandemic. He’s three. We were, like, five weeks in the hospital. You go through something like that and you see, like, just how many strong people there are, and it makes you stop caring about things that you used to care about,’ Natasha said.

She also said that her son was doing ‘so incredible’.

Bull performed Rain On Me by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, while Skunk took on the classic song At Last by Etta James.

They will meet in a few weeks in the Group A finals.

The Masked Singer will return next Wednesday on Fox with the Group B semifinals.
