The Crown's Gillian Anderson plagued with internet issues during Critics' Choice speech

The Critics’ Choice Awards 2021 saw Gillian Anderson, 52, scoop up the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Margaret Thatcher in Netflix‘s ever-popular The Crown. It comes a week after she won the same gong at the Golden Globes, but this time her acceptance speech suffered a slight internet connection issue.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony was held as a virtual event which saw Gillian appear via Zoom from Prague, where she is currently filming her latest project, White Bird.

As Mayim Bialik and Leslie Jordan presented her with the award, Anderson’s live feed kept freezing and cutting in and out, resulting in loss of words and a rather jittery speech.

Nevertheless, she was beyond thankful for the accolade, saying: “Wow! Thank you to the Critics Choice Association and to my fellow nominees!”

She went on to thank the showrunner, producers and Director of Photography of The Crown, and then thanked “the entire amazing, amazing cast”.

She also gave a special shout-out to Stephen Boxer, who played her on-screen husband Denis Thatcher.

“He played my hubby – a wonderful and very supportive interpretation,” Anderson beamed.

“I love you all and I love everyone on the planet. So thank you very much!”

This award is all too familiar for the star, who took home the same award last week at the Golden Globes, which were also virtual.

She moved back to Chicago at the age of 11 and after her stint in The X-Files, Gillian moved permanently back to London.

Since her move, the actress has starred in several British TV series including The Fall and Sex Education.

“Oh, my gosh I’m so relaxed everything and then you are relaxed and you are relaxed and then all of a sudden, you start to freak out geez, on okay,” she said after hearing her name being announced as the winner.

The star went on to thank her ex Peter Morgan, who is the creator and writer of the Netflix historical drama series.
