Sex and the City: How much would Carrie Bradshaw's NYC apartment cost today?

The new HBO series And Just Like That… premieres in Australia this week.

And as anticipation for the Sex and the City spin-off grows, the true value of lead character Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic New York City apartment has been calculated by realestate.com.au.

Today, the apartment owned by Sarah Jessica Parker’s character would be worth at least US$600,000 (AU$844,000), according to the website.

Carrie, who originally rented her apartment before buying it with the help of friend Charlotte (played by Kristin Davis), would have paid ‘between $150,000 and $200,000’ at the time.

The value of the property would likely have grown by at least $US450,000 (AU$633,000) in the two decades since then.

However, those figures pale in comparison to the value of the apartment’s real exterior – at 64 Perry Street in the West Village.

The brownstone on which Carrie’s apartment façade is based last sold in 2012 for a staggering US$9.85million (AU$13.98million).

In one of the long-running show’s earlier seasons, Carrie claims her rent is just US$700 per month.

However, the columnist benefited from rent control, a measure in many U.S. cities by which rent is essentially ‘frozen’ on a property for as long as that tenant – or their beneficiary – lives in it.

Without rent control, Carrie could today expect to pay at least US$3,000 (AU$4,200) per month for a similar property.

Carrie still owns the apartment, based on its appearance in the trailer for new series And Just Like That…, which debuts on Binge this Thursday at 7:01AEDT.

In a nod to the saucy tone of the original show, the shock factor is certainly in place as Carrie, who gets steamy with her husband Mr Big in the clip, is seen in a radio interview in which she is asked if she’d ever masturbated in public – to which the shopaholic cheekily responds: ‘Not since Barneys closed!’

As well as returning co-stars Davis and Cynthia Nixon, the spin-off will feature Bridget Moynahan, Evan Handler, Sara Ramirez, Sarita Choudhury, Karen Pittman, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg and Nicole Ari Parker.

Also seen in the trailer is the late Willie Garson, who died in September.

One member of the SATC cast notably missing from the new series is Kim Cattrall, who played fellow bestie Samantha Jones.

Cattrall famously refused to reprise her role for a third movie, and though she was allegedly the reason for the cancellation of the third film, it is unclear if she was ever invited to be a part of the latest HBO Max show.

The original series was created by Darren Star and based on characters from Candace Bushnell’s 1996 book of the same title.

Sex and the City ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2004 and spawned two movies as well. There is also the prequel series The Carrie Diaries starring AnnaSophia Robb, which aired from 2013 to 2014.

Something's missing: Unlike returning co-stars Kristin Davis (right) and Cynthia Nixon (left), Kim Cattrall, who played fellow bestie Samantha Jones, will not be back for the spin-off
