Sex And The City fans speculate whether Miranda is now dating WOMEN on And Just Like That…

Sex And The City fans have begun to wonder online whether Miranda Hobbes will be attracted to women in the reboot.

Miranda is only shown being involved with men in the original series and the two movies, whereas in reality Cynthia Nixon who plays her is married to a woman.

Now the new trailer for the spin-off And Just Like That… has set fans atwitter speculating that art will imitate life and Cynthia’s character will start dating women.

The conjecture stems mainly from a handful of details included in the sneak peek, which is less than one minute long.

One shot shows Miranda having what appears to be a one-on-one dinner in a dimly lit restaurant with a character played by the nonbinary bisexual Sara Ramirez.

One fan posted a still of the moment to Twitter and gushed: ‘they have definitely made Miranda gay. Grey, gay and fabulous! Here for it!’

Another detail that drew attention on Twitter was the placement of a shot showing Miranda sharing a tender moment with a character played by Karen Pittman.

The shot came right after brief glimpses of two couples – Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Harry (Evan Handler), and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Big (Chris Noth).

‘This totally makes it seem like Miranda is going to be queer right?’ tweeted a fan. ‘Like shot of Harry&Charlotte, Carrie&Big and then Miranda and that hot lady?’

During the show Miranda, a high-powered lawyer, has a whirlwind on-off romance with bartender Steve Brady (David Eigenberg).

They have a baby, marry and then remain together through the Sex And The City movies – although their relationship is rocked by his infidelity.

David was initially coy in public about his potential return for the reboot, but it emerged in June that he will in fact be part of And Just Like That….

However the status of his and Miranda’s relationship on the show remains unconfirmed, allowing for the possibility they may split.

Rumors that Miranda will date women come on the heels of a storm of speculation that And Just Like That… will see Carrie and Big get divorced.

Fans were sent into a spin last month when Sarah Jessica was spotted filming a kiss scene for the show with silver fox Jon Tenney.

Excitement: 'This totally makes it seem like Miranda is going to be queer right?' tweeted a fan: 'Like shot of Harry&Charlotte, Carrie&Big and then Miranda and that hot lady?'

For months there had been rumors that And Just Like That… would show the marriage on the rocks – and some fans took the kiss with Jon as confirmation.

Over the summer some pages of the script leaked to Page Six in which Carrie is seen commiserating with friends over the state of her relationship with Big.

‘I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?’ Carrie says exasperatedly to her pals.

If Miranda does explore her sexuality on And Just Like That…, she will not be the first of the four original Sex And The City girls to do so.

Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall who has famously declined to return for the reboot, begins an affair with a lesbian artist named Maria in season four.

Maria, played by the Brazilian actress Sonia Braga, ultimately decides that Samantha has trouble with ‘intimacy’ and the relationship fizzles.

Cynthia in reality has had relationships with women as well as men, including one longtime love called Danny Mozes, a schoolteacher with whom she has two children.

Danny and Cynthia split up in 2003 and then in 2004 she began dating activist Christine Marinoni who is now her wife.

Back in 2012 Cynthia was profiled by the New York Times Magazine and controversially said of being with women: ‘For me, it is a choice.’

She clarified: ‘I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me.’

Cynthia defiantly added: ‘Why can’t it be a choice? Why is that any less legitimate? It seems we’re just ceding this point to bigots who are demanding it, and I don’t think that they should define the terms of the debate.’

Amid the resultant furor among gay activists she gave a statement revealing she regarded herself as bisexual and so being with a woman was the ‘choice.’

‘While I don’t often use the word, the technically precise term for my orientation is bisexual. I believe bisexuality is not a choice, it is a fact. What I have ‘chosen’ is to be in a gay relationship,’ she said, as quoted in The Advocate.

In 2018 she said she prefers the term ‘queer’ and last year she explained: ‘I could call myself a lesbian, gay, bisexual. But none of them seems really particularly right.’

During an interview with the UK gay magazine Attitude she said: ‘To say ‘queer’ means: ‘I’m over there, I don’t have to go into the nuances of my sexuality with you.”

Said she: ‘Falling in love with my wife was one of the great delights and surprises of my life, but it didn’t seem like I became a whole new person, or like some door had been unlocked. It was like: ‘I have fallen in love with different people in my life and they’ve all been men before. Now, this is a woman and she is amazing.”

Cynthia, who also once ran unsuccessfully to be Governor of New York, said: ‘So I feel like ‘queer’ is an umbrella term, and it includes my formerly straight self, too.’
