Rosamund Pike reveals there will be more naked men than women in The Wheel of Time

Rosamund Pike has revealed that her new feminist fantasy series The Wheel of Time will show ‘more naked men than women’.

The actress, 42, said it was ‘quite pleasing’ to readdress the nudity imbalance ‘since women have been asked to expose themselves forever and a day.’

Rosamund plays Moiraine in the six-part fantasy-drama – which has been dubbed Amazon’s answer to Game of Thrones – based on the Robert Jordan novels of the same name.

She told The Radio Times: ‘You see many more naked men than you see naked women, which is quite pleasing, since women have been asked to expose themselves forever and a day.

‘We’ve got all the boys frantically dieting and working out hard for their naked scenes and all of the women going out for lovely dinners.’

The actress said Jordan’s background in the US army was relevant to his depiction of the characters.

‘When I found out that Robert Jordan had been a helicopter gunner in Vietnam, I thought, oh, that’s where this big fantasy world originates. That’s why he’s interested in men who had power and abused it and broke the world,’ she said.

The star also said she had received numerous letters from fans of the books, most of them men.

She explained: ‘Many of them have said that actually these women in The Wheel of Time were mentors and role models for them growing up, which I thought was very interesting.’

In the show Magician Moiraine, a member of a mystical all-female organisation, takes a group of five young people on a journey around the world in the hope of unveiling one of them as a reincarnation of The Dragon, a powerful creature who is destined to either save the planet or destroy it.

Earlier this year Rosamund revealed she accidentally took her children on a booze cruise in Prague, where she was based while filming the new series.

She said they were surrounded by the ‘drunkest human beings’ she has ever seen.

The actress joked that her two young sons, Solo, eight, and Atom, six, ‘haven’t stopped acting drunk’ since the trip, which they found a ‘fascinating’ experience.

The Gone Girl star explained how she thought it would be a ‘wholesome and traditional Czech activity’ to immerse her children in culture after moving to the city 18 months ago while she filmed her latest project.

Speaking during an interview on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, she said: ‘My kids were fascinated… I promise you, I’ve never seen drunker human beings than I saw on this boat… Men who stood up and immediately fell flat.

Rosamund explained: ‘I took them on what I have heard is a very wholesome and traditional Czech activity to do with kids, which is to go river rafting.

‘There’s a lovely town called Cesky Krumlov quite near Prague… it’s this beautiful stretch of river and there are rapids and weirs.

‘I took my two boys out on this inflatable raft and it was idyllic… I thought it would be water rats and king fishers and snakes.

‘But what I underestimated was the fact that it’s also a very popular Czech pastime for stag dos and hen nights… bachelorette, bachelor party, booze cruise, whatever label you want put on it.’

She told the chat show host: ‘They loved it, Jimmy, because we were travelling along and we came across… a group of women in bikinis with a very large inflatable man with a huge erection trailing behind them in the boat.

‘My kids were fascinated… I promise you, I’ve never seen drunker human beings than I saw on this boat… Men who stood up and immediately fell flat.

‘Then one who stumbled over the edge got completely drenched in mud and then clambered back into the boat splattering all the girls with mud.

‘My kids have never stopped acting drunk ever since… they just thought this is clearly what adults do. This is our future, we better start.’
