Royal Wedding: Patrick J Adams and Gabriel Macht arrive
The Canadian actor, 39, yesterday sprang to the defence of the Duchess of Sussex in a Twitter rant, where he called out the Royal Family for “amplifying accusations of ‘bullying’”. The fallout came ahead of Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with the talk show host Oprah Winfrey. In a series of tweets, Adams claimed “the family dynamic” was “complicated” at best and “at worst, seemingly archaic and toxic”.
Adams championed his friend Meghan, who played his TV love interest Rachel Zane in the US drama Suits, in an eight-tweet thread.
His first post, where he described the Duchess as “kind”, “giving” and “joyful”, received more than 334,000 likes and was retweeted 61,100 times.
While many supported Adams’ call for fair treatment, some opposed him, including Piers Morgan, who branded the actor a “jumped-up little twerp”.
The Good Morning Britain star tweeted: “How dare you attack our Royal Family like this.”

In Adams’ post, he described the royals’ actions as “OBSCENE”, which Piers picked apart in his response.
He wrote: “Actually, what’s ‘OBSCENE’ is your friend trashing her husband’s family on global TV as the Queen’s 99-yr-old husband lies in hospital.”
This isn’t the first time Adams has caused a stir on social media with a post relating to Meghan.
In 2017, he posted an old photograph of the Duchess kissing him on the cheek while they filmed Suits.

Adams captioned the Instagram post: “Ross and Rachel – the next generation.”
He referred to Ross Geller and Rachel Green from the TV show Friends – the characters were known to have a ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship.
The image fuelled speculation about a possible romance between Adams and Meghan.
The actor played the Duchess’ on-screen love interest in Suits, Michael Ross, which she starred in for six years until late 2017.

In the wake of comments that alleged a relationship between Meghan and the married star, Adams temporarily deleted his Instagram account.
When he reflected on the incident during a 2017 interview with Esquire, he admitted he was “not good” at social media.
He claimed to “overthink every post” before publishing and always considered “the ramifications” of “who will be listening and how it will be received”.
However, Adams admitted the response to his throwback photograph with Meghan blindsided him.

After posting the picture, he went to be and woke up unaware of the intense scrutiny and backlash mounting online.
He recalled: “[I] realized ‘Oh yeah, I live in a world where you can’t post things about Meghan’.
“I had this onslaught of people retweeting the thing.”
Adams noted that people thought “it was a recent picture” and presumed they were in a relationship.

He recalled: “I just thought, ‘What the hell is going on?’”
Adams was frustrated by the backlash to his post because – from his perspective – it was “such an innocent moment of sentimentality”.
He claimed it had been “twisted into something totally different”.
The responses made Adams question: “Why put myself through this?”

The star reiterated there was no romantic connection with Meghan and their relationship was similar to one enjoyed by siblings.
Adams said: “We’re like brother and sister, it is not like it was lurid or anything.
“But it just became a story that people wanted to talk about.”
Despite Adams’ regret over the post, he went on to share more photographs of Meghan on Instagram, in 2019.

The pictures showed the Suits cast as they filmed in Toronto, Canada.
In one that showed the Duchess, he wrote “RZ” in reference to her character’s name, Rachel Zane.
In a final post on Friday, when Adams tried to defend Meghan, he wrote: “Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment.
“My friend Meghan is way out of your league.”
