Parental Guidance: Viewer's fury at tiger mum Debbie's harsh feedback

Parental Guidance viewers are outraged at ‘tiger mum’ for telling her children they’re ‘not playing very well’ after a busking challenge

Parental Guidance viewers were left outraged by ‘tiger parents’ Kevin and Debbie after they harshly criticised their children’s performance in a busking challenge.

The couple’s daughter Mimi, 12, and son Leo, 10, were tasked with earning $20 in two hours, which they chose to do by playing their musical instruments in the street.

But their talents were not up to Debbie’s high standards, and they did not receive much money from pedestrians walking past.

Debbie had to call in a favour from her own mother who helped them reach the $20 goal, but told her children afterwards they looked ‘distracted’ and were not ‘playing very well’.

Viewers flocked to Twitter to criticise Debbie and Kevin for their brutal honesty and lack of praise for their hard-working children.

One fan tweeted: ‘Just because you criticise all the time doesn’t make it right, tiger lady. There is a difference between honesty, criticism and feedback.’

‘They aren’t really tiger parents. The mum is just a mean nag,’ another commented.

‘Tiger parenting is so toxic. Some of them push their kids not to success but failure because a lot of the time they use negative reinforcement to get results and it crushes kids’ confidence,’ a third wrote.

‘Tiger parents and French parenting aren’t allowing the children to enjoy their childhood, which is meant to be fun and enjoyable,’ another viewer said.

‘We needed to tell them that, “I know you were feeling awkward but you didn’t really concentrate. You didn’t play well.”‘

Kevin added that their children are ‘really mature’ for their age and are able to accept criticism without taking it to heart.
