She welcomed her second child, a baby girl, with her partner Leyman Lahcine in February.
And Paloma Faith revealed at the launch of Frida baby products at Chiltern Firehouse on Thursday night that she couldn’t walk for two weeks after undergoing an emergency C-section.
In a candid conversation with Fearne Cotton, the Upside Down hitmaker, 40, said: ‘One word to define my postpartum body is deflated. Like a balloon not popped properly.’
Candid: Paloma Faith likened her postpartum physique to ‘a balloon not popped properly’ while in conversation with Fearne Cotton and Chelsea Hirschhorn at the launch of Frida baby products at Chiltern Firehouse on Thursday night
She explained of her lengthy post-birth recovery: ‘It shouldn’t be called a birth plan, it should be called “my ideal situation”.
‘My advice to an expectant mother is don’t be alone. You are not. So many women have done it.
Everyone wants to talk about it. You can feel shame about it not being perfect. But so many feel this.’
And Paloma certainly didn’t look deflated as she wowed at the event in a red leather-look dress, which she layered over a chic white shirt.
‘My postpartum body is deflated… But women’s postpartum bodies are not celebrated enough. I always hid my body but now I’m 40 I’m like, this body has done some sh*t!’ she said while chatting to Fearne
Fearne – who is mum to Rex, eight, and Honey, six, also shared her feelings on her own birth experiences and said: ‘It’s an amazing, game changing, life changing moment but we don’t celebrate it enough and we should.
‘When I was giving birth I was roaring like a lion, I loved every minute of the roar! But afterwards, I was so terrified of going for a poo, I just kept asking for more dates and figs!
No one told me about cluster feeding and when you’re exhausted and starving, and you get stuck for about two hours – it can be a lot. My top tip would be to try and get someone there every night for support.’
Unexpected C-section: Paloma Faith welcomed her second baby, a girl, with partner Leyman Lahcine in February and revealed she couldn’t walk for two weeks afterwards
Back in February, the songwriter shared a candid caption about her first 30 hours with the newborn, in which she said she was ‘exhausted’ and ‘in pain’, but added that it was all worth it to meet her ‘new little cherub.’
She penned: ‘Pregnancy diary. Well I’m not pregnant anymore! I had a planned c section yesterday I’m in a lot of pain and didn’t sleep last night but it’s worth it to see and meet the new little cherub I have in front of me.’
Paloma then went on to share how she’s doing with breastfeeding her baby girl, adding that her ‘nipples are on fire’.
Expecting: Paloma announced her pregnancy in September following six rounds of IVF treatment, almost four years after welcoming her first child, a daughter, with Leyman
She explained: ‘I’m Exhausted, sore and my nipples are on fire with a baby piranha that wants to kill me’
‘On them every few hours but I am of course elated! This baby couldn’t be more loved or wanted if she tried (yes I have two gals).
‘I’m now going through the constant worry of bottle vs breast, last time I breast fed exclusively and I think it was too hard! I don’t know if I wana put myself through that this time….. but I’m Trying anyway.
And my nipples are on fire. Lost a litre of blood and I’m in so much pain despite the pain killers. The joys!’
New arrival: The singer announced the arrival of her second child in February by sharing a sweet black and white snap of the tot’s feet on Instagram
The actress, who already has a three-year-old daughter with Leyman, announced her pregnancy on her social media platforms at the end of September, with a picture cradling her bump.
She penned: ‘It is with extreme pleasure I announce I am pregnant. I am going to be releasing new music at this time and wanted to feel free in my body as it changes before all our eyes!
‘I love my job and can’t wait for you all to hear my 5th album and I will be out and about playing as much as this crazy time will allow (also a tour next year).
Couple: She is already mother to a three-year-old daughter with her long-term partner Leyman (pictured together in 2018)
‘I am not a skinny pregnant person and I am also high risk in pregnancy so would like to ask the media not to run after me ate get unflattering shots as anxiety is detrimental to me and my baby.
‘This child is so wanted, it’s my 6th round of IVF and was a struggle to get here. I had a very traumatic first birth and I am also prone to postpartum depression.
‘Being a mother is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me but I will swell up and I won’t “glow”! I intend to be very real about this with you all!
‘To all the other pregnant women out there who are as in love with their babies as me but simultaneously s***ing themselves, let’s do this.’
Struggle: Paloma became pregnant after six rounds of IVF and has previously suffered with post partum depression
