Fans of The Masked Singer will be treated to a new weird and wacky show in the form of The Masked Dancer, which will see disguised celebrities strutting their stuff. The ITV series follows on from the phenomenally successful Masked Singer which aired its second series earlier this year. The Masked Dancer has the same format to the parent series except famous faces will be throwing shapes rather than demonstrating their vocal abilities.
Why is Rita Ora not on The Masked Dancer judging panel as Masked Singer co-stars return?
Along with 12 new stars taking to the stage albeit under some elaborate costumes, the judging panel and celebrity sleuths will be back again to try and figure out who the hidden stars are.
Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and Davina McCall will all be putting their detective skills to the test as well as their celebrity knowledge.
Also, host Joel Dommett will be back again to lead the proceedings and host The Masked Dancer.
However, Rita Ora is not going to be featuring on the new series and instead Strictly Come Dancing professional Oti Mabuse will be joining as the dance expert.
There’s no reason why Rita isn’t going to be on the spin-off series after the rest of the panel has returned.
ITV declined to comment about why Rita Ora isn’t on The Masked Dancer panel.
However, the American edition of The Masked Dancer does feature different panelists to The Masked Singer.
For The Masked Dancer UK, it looks like Oti is going to be the dance expert on the panel while Rita was the singing expert for The Masked Singer.
Additionally, Rita is now Down Under as she gets ready to appear as a coach on The Voice Australia which means she’s unable to appear on The Masked Dancer.
Rita faced criticism earlier this year after breaking lockdown rules to host her 30th birthday party at a restaurant.
She also attracted the ire of viewers on Dancing On Ice when she subsequently performed on the series.
Some enraged viewers contacted media watchdog Ofcom to complain about the appropriateness of the singer on the show in light of contravening Covid rules against indoor meetings during the second lockdown in November last year.
At the time, she issued a statement in which she apologised, saying her actions were an “inexcusable error of judgement”.
Rita later broke the rules again when she travelled to Egpyt to perform at a gig which she was paid for.
The Hot Right Now pop star issued a second statement, which read: “I apologise again unreservedly. I would like to add that I have been tested subsequently, including today, and remain negative for Covid-19 and the same is true for all members of my immediate family who form my support bubble.”
There were previously reports Oti could be joining The Masked Dancer with the star proving her dancing knowledge and prowess.
Speaking about being part of the series, Oti said: “I’m so thrilled and honoured to be joining the panel on The Masked Dancer.
“I’m a huge fan of The Masked Singer and I loved the US Masked Dancer so I just can’t wait to start on this show.”
She added: “As a dancer I will be watching the dancers intently looking for clues – it’s going to be so much fun!”
