'It's difficult' EV owner 'issues' as mechanics 'don't know how to work electric vehicles'

For mechanics, there is a learning curve for electric and hybrid cars, with training schemes placing emphasis on the battery repairs.

The batteries are generally between 400 and 800 volts, with safety precautions put in place to protect the mechanic, the driver and the health of the car.

Dean Lander, Head of Repair Sector Services for Thatcham Research, said he is confident that the skills gap before 2030 can be closed.

He continued, saying: “I think what does need to happen is significant investment has to be brought in to train the industry to be able to deal with repair services of electric vehicles.
