‘It was terrifying’: Kirsten Dunst feared she would ‘die’ if she caught Covid because she smoked and reveals her second child was conceived the night of a film wrap party

Kirsten Dunst has revealed she was worried she would die if she caught Covid because she was a smoker when the pandemic began.

The actress, 39, worked with her boyfriend Jesse Plemons on the new movie The Power Of The Dog and told how the couple conceived their second child James, six months, at the wrap party.

Speaking to The Times, Kirsten told how she got to film the role in New Zealand and was there when the pandemic struck.

She said: ‘We would go to the grocery store and take off our clothes and wipe down afterwards. No one knew anything, it was terrifying, and at the time I smoked so I was like, “Oh my God, if I get this I am gonna die.”‘

Kristen, who is also mother to Ennis, three, with Jesse, told how she was determined to have a second child when the couple wrapped filming.

She said: ‘I was like, as soon as we are done with this movie, let’s try and have another baby.’

Elsewhere during the interview, Kirsten opened up about checking into rehab for depression when she was in her late twenties.

The star believes the depression was brought on by the relentless pressure of work and said she was originally scared to take medication to help ease.

She said: ‘All I’ll say is that medication is a great thing and can really help you come out of something. I was afraid to take something and so I sat in it for too long. I would recommend getting help when you need it.’

Kirsten also said she felt ‘free’ after giving birth to her first son and thinks she has put herself out there more as a performer since becoming a mother.

In a recent trailer for The Power Of The Dog, Kirsten was seen being tormented by co-star Benedict.

Benedict’s cruel character is seen teasing and tormenting a widow played by Kirsten as he runs a ranch in 1925 Montana alongside his brother George, played by Jesse.

Though Cumberbatch harasses Kirsten’s character Rose and her son Peter, George takes a liking to them and marries her.

Furious at his new family members, Phil continues to lash out at Rose.

He’s then seen in a moment mentoring Peter, played by Kodi Smit-McPhee, prompting viewers to wonder if Phil could be kind or if he was plotting something sinister.

The Power Of The Dog’s ensemble also includes Thomasin McKenzie, Frances Conroy, Keith Carradine, Peter Carroll, and Adam Beach, among others.

The Power Of The Dog will be released November 17, 2021 in cinemas and will stream on Netflix on December 1
