Manchester United will look to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2015-16 under new interim boss Ralf Rangnick’s control – although they have been handed a tough start in a home tie to Aston Villa, which will see former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard take on United twice in a week as Villa boss.
Gerrard was appointed as Villa boss in November after a poor run of form, and the ex-Reds legend was set to take on United at Villa Park on January 15 in the league.
It was to be the first time he faced United since his 38-second sending off in the north-west derby at Anfield back in March 2015.
But the draw has brought about two outings in a week for Rangnick and Gerrard, with the winner facing the nerves of the fourth round draw.
Elsewhere, Chelsea have been drawn at home to fifth-tier Chesterfield.
Thomas Tuchel’s men were agonisingly close to winning the trophy last season before stumbling at the final hurdle to Leicester City at Wembley following Youri Tielemans’ winner.
They will get the chance to redeem themselves in the home tie against the Spireites, who currently occupy first place in the National League.
And having been upset 4-2 at home to League One Bradford City in 2015, the Blues will be wary of any challenge the Derbyshire club pose.
