Chet Hanks, son of actor Tom Hanks, has been sued for $1 million by his ex-girlfriend, who was granted a temporary protective order against him on March 30, according to Texas court documents.
In a petition filed in Fort Bend County Monday, Kiana Parker’s lawyers, D’Angelo Lowe and Kevin Murray, said she is seeking $1 million from Hanks, including “damages of any kind, penalties, costs, expenses prejudgment interest, and post judgment interest as allowed by law.”
Parker’s lawyers gave a press conference Tuesday outside the Fort Bend County Justice Center in Texas, where Lowe said Hanks “mentally and physically abused” his ex-girlfriend.
Murray added, “This is about violence within the confines of a relationship between a man and a woman, a man who mentally and physically and psychologically battered Kiana Parker.”
It’s the latest development in an escalating drama involving dueling sworn allegations of violence, theft, fights, threats with a weapon and racial slurs dating back to October 2020, and mostly taking place in January in Sugar Land, Texas, where the couple have a home.

Parker’s lawsuit restates allegations she made in her protective order, including that Hanks threatened her with a murder-suicide while her 9-year-old twins were in the house. The order, signed by the county district court clerk, suspended Hanks’ handgun license under Texas Family Court law.

Parker filed for the protective order on Jan. 12, against actor and musician Chester Marlon Hanks, 30, alleging she needed protection because as their relationship deteriorated, he repeatedly manhandled her, threw things at her and threatened her with a gun in multiple encounters.
He also allegedly directed racial slurs at her, according to her affidavit. Parker is Black.
“On or about December 22, 2020, Chet returned to our home in (Sugar Land). The next week things turned dark, he told me he would ‘blow my brains out’ and that he ‘didn’t want to live and would blow his brains out’ as well,” Parker states in an affidavit.
“I had my 9-year old twins in the house with us. It was around 3 a.m. and I waited until he went to sleep and took my girls to the house with my mom.”
The protective order forbids Hanks from possessing a gun, “committing family violence,” stalking or harassing or coming within 200 feet of Parker, or communicating with her in a threatening or harassing manner, or approaching her in any way except through her lawyer.
In a civil lawsuit, filed March 4 in Los Angeles where the couple also had a home, Hanks accused Parker of assault, battery and stealing money and property worth almost $20,000. He is seeking a jury trial.
“On or about January 8, 2021, (Parker) did wrongfully, unlawfully, intentionally and without legal justification strike (Hanks) with a pot and slashed him with a knife,” Hanks’ complaint reads.
Parker’s affidavit offers details of the abuse she says she’s suffered from Hanks, including a physical, screaming fight while she was moving out of the Sugar Land house.
“I have been afraid to be by myself ever since and have had my assistant or family with me at all times,” her affidavit says.
“Chet and I have multiple homes we live in together that contain property for both of us, both in Texas and California. I am afraid that he will hurt me again if we see each other face-to-face or if he finds out where I am staying.”
According to Parker’s affidavit, she and Hanks began dating in March 2019.
Hanks is the son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, and is known for his recurring roles on “Empire” and “Shameless.”
Marty Singer, Hanks’ Los Angeles celebrity lawyer, declined to comment but issued a statement to USA TODAY.
“The day after Chet Hanks confronted Kiana Parker about stealing money from his credit card, while Ms. Parker was accompanied by a huge male carrying a gun, she viciously attacked Chet with a knife, which caused him to profusely bleed. It is all on video and the undisputed video tells the whole story. Her claims are completely false, fabricated and fictional.”
TMZ posted a video it says shows the end of an altercation between the couple in Sugar Land on Jan. 8. The camera shows Kiana when she appears to swipe at him as she holds a pot, then Hanks’ bloodied face appears and he accuses her of slashing him, which Parker denies.
