Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy team up to star and produce a fact-based drama movie about the Afghanistan evacuation for Universal Pictures


Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy are slated to team up for the first time on the big screen in a new project for Universal Pictures.

The studio picked up an original pitch from writer George Nolfi (The Banker), described as a, ‘ripped-from-the-headlines fact-based drama,’ via Deadline.

Tatum, 41, and Hardy, 44, are slated to both star in and produce the project, though no director is attached at this time.

The plot is based on recently-reported stories about three former Special Forces team members who join their Afghan counterparts to rescue families and allies amid the fall of Afghanistan and its capital Kabul this past August.

No specific details were given for the characters Tatum and Hardy will be playing in the project.

Tatum will produce through his Free Association company, alongside partners Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan.

Hardy and Jules Daly will also serve as producers, with Nolfi serving as an executive producer.

Ryan Jones, Senior Vice President of Production, will oversee the project on behalf of Universal Pictures. 

Tatum made headlines over Halloween by dressing up as the iconic Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) from Martin Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi Driver.

He was joined by his girlfriend Zoe Kravitz, who dressed up as Iris, played in the film by a young Jodie Foster.

He also had a small cameo in the hit Ryan Reynolds movie Free Guy, and he’ll next be seen in Dog, which also serves as his directorial debut, alongside Reid Carolin.

The film follows Briggs (Tatum), who drives with his best friend’s dog (the dog’s handler) down the Pacific Coast to make it to the friend/handler’s funeral.

Tatum also has a role in the star-studded Lost City of D, with Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe.

He’s also slated to star in his girlfriend Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut, entitled P***y Island, alongside Naomie Ackie.

Hardy just recently starred in Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and he’s attached to star in an adaptation of Tim O’Brien’s Vietnam War memoir The Things They Carried.
