Carol Vorderman, 60, slips into camouflage leggings before sharing Countdown throwback as she marks 39 years since show’s first broadcast

Carol Vorderman was in a sentimental mood on Tuesday as she marked 39 years since Countdown was first broadcast.

Taking to Instagram, the presenter, 60, shared a clip of herself from the first episode aged 21.

Carol later showed off her age-defying figure in skintight camouflage leggings as she headed ‘off to an airfield’.

The television personality teamed the figure-hugging leggings with a white jumper as she posed with her hand on her hip for the mirror selfie.

Reflecting on her 26 years on the programme on its 39th anniversary, Carol shared a throwback video alongside a lengthy caption.

She wrote: ’39 years ago today I started on the telly with my beloved Richard Whiteley on Countdown as the first ever show broadcast on the new channel 4.

‘I was 21. We had 23 cheeky, happy, laughing years together until he died. The clock stopped too soon and I still miss him

‘We were so excited about the 1st show 1982. I had a proper job then & Countdown was an extra.

‘We never thought it would last beyond the 8 weeks it was booked for! I was paid £20 a show which was a fortune to me. Richard & I worked hard. I made 5,000 shows over 26 years.’

Richard passed away in 2005 after an unsuccessful emergency operation for endocarditis due to heart problems.

Carol’s outing comes after she hosted the Pride Of Britain Awards ceremony for the 22nd time on Saturday night.

The former Countdown star gave her Instagram followers a peek at her dressing room on Saturday, hours before she took to the stage at Grosvenor House, London.

Treating her fans even further, the former Countdown presenter panned her camera around a vast room at the 5-star Mayfair hotel, which was in the process of transforming into a funky bar.

The walls were adorned with neon lights, the Pride Of Britain angel and a large sign reading ‘Celebrating Our Heroes.’

Informing her fans of the preparation, the mother-of-two wrote: ‘They’re getting the first Drinks place for everyone ready tonight @prideofbritain’.

For the first time in the show’s 22-year history, Carol was joined by Diversity star Ashley Banjo, 33, who was recently revealed as her new co-host.

Carol said of working with the TV star: ‘Ashley is a wonderful person and I’m delighted that he’s joining me because he has been involved for a few years now and it just feels right.’
