However, carer’s allowance can affect other benefits both the claimant and the person they’re caring for could be getting.
When a person claims carer’s allowance, the person they’re caring for will stop getting the severe disability premium paid with their benefits and/or an extra amount for severe disability paid with pension credit, if they get one.
The Government notes, however, when a person claims carer’s allowance their other benefits may change, but the total amount of payments a person receives will usually go up or stay the same.
It should also be noted carer’s allowance is one of the few benefits that does not count towards the benefit cap.
