Blue Badge renewal: How to renew your Blue Badge online


Blue Badges can be applied for yourself, on behalf of somebody else or an organisation that transports people in need of a badge. Blue Badges provide a saving grace to people with lessened mobility, as it overrides a number of parking restrictions. If you have a badge, you must use it properly as its concessions are for your use only. It’s a criminal offence for you or anyone else to misuse the badge, and doing so could lead to a £1,000 fine and confiscation.

Who can apply for a Blue Badge?

You automatically get a badge if at least one of the following applies:

  • You get the higher rate of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • You receive PIP because you can’t walk more than 50 metres
  • You’re registered blind
  • You get a War Pensioner’s Mobility Supplement
  • You’ve been certified as having a permanent disability from the Armed Forces and Reserve Forces Compensation Scheme
  • You receive the mobility component of PIP with 10 points for the activity component

How you pay depends on your local council, who will normally make a decision within 12 weeks.

If your application is refused, your council should tell you why you’re not eligible for a Blue Badge.

You can ask them to reconsider your case if you don’t think all the important information you provided was taken into account.

You can also reapply if you were previously refused but your mobility problems have become more serious since.
