Billy, 73, first created the character of Buddy for the late night show Saturday Night Live.

And he told the Times that it has been one of his favorite parts over his 50 year career.

‘I love that guy,’ said Crystal who is best known for his 1989 romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally… with Meg Ryan.

‘And there was more to say with this character; there was more to do.’

And the Oscar host added that he is taking on such a massive production at age 73 because he likes to work: ‘I’ve always tried to challenge myself and keep growing, keep stretching.’

Bill looked into it, but it took many years to develop.

Now the show is ready to roll with Billy in the lead part, and David Paymer – who was also in the movie – as Young’s younger brother Stan.

Also in the cast is Randy Graff as Young’s wife and Chasten Harmon as his agent.
