The Secret Diary of a Call Girl actress Billie Piper, 38, has opened up about her “reckless 20s” following the end of her marriage to Radio DJ Chris Evans, 54, when she was 21. The TV star admitted that she “needed to fall apart” in order to get to where she is today.

Speaking about her blossoming career, the former Doctor Who star revealed: “My 20s were quite wild, and that was likely to be a reaction to [teenage years spent] working all the hours that God sent, being very performative and treated sort of like a flashy sales girl; a really young one.

“I really needed to fall apart in that sort of reckless 20s way.”

Billie added that the lack of responsibility she had at that age allowed her to develop as a person.

She continued: “To not care about looking put-together every waking moment of my life or saying the wrong things as a role model to children”.

However, two years later, cracks started appearing in their marriage and the couple finally split in 2004, before their divorce was finalised in 2007.

Billie then went on to marry actor Laurence Fox, 42, after meeting on the set of show Treats.

But after eight years of marriage and welcoming two sons, Winston, 12 and Eugene, 8, the couple announced that they were splitting in March 2016.

Speaking about her tumultuous marriage to the actor, Billie told Psychologies magazine: “It’s emotionally up and down – the extremities of emotion.

“Being in love isn’t something that goes, ‘Oh, this is it then.’ It’s more dramatic. It can make you feel sick and then out of control and hyper.’

“[The rows are] usually something really stupid, often born out of being exhausted.”

Billie is now in a long-term relationship with ex-rockstar and former frontman of band Tribes, Johnny Lloyd.

The full interview appears in the April issue of Red, on sale 4th March and you can read it online here.
