Antonio Conte's Paul Pogba success shows Solskjaer how he can solve Man Utd dilemma

However, ever since he returned to United, management at Old Trafford have never seemed to be able to get the same results out of him. On the international stage, Didier Deschamps has had no issues either.

Whilst playing in Italy under Conte, Pogba was utilised as a left-sided central midfielder in a 4-1-2-1-2 setup.

The role allowed him to be a presence in both areas and also be a creator, as he was able to drift into the wing spaces and cause overloads. But he was also well-drilled and knew that he must sit deeper if one of his partners pushed forward.

At United, Pogba has never played that position. The two-man partnership restrains him to only being able to create from deep, and on the occasions that he has played as a no.10, it has become noticeable that the 28-year-old doesn’t have the skillset for the position.
